👶 Pregnancy, raising children, and tobacco — without the pieties
An argument that lands better as a question about air than as a lecture. Babies and children can't choose what they breathe.
Never in front of the kids.
A lot of people have made that rule. Out to the balcony. Under the extractor fan. Windows down in the car. Being careful in their own way, before anyone in the family has to say it.
That care is far better than nothing.
But the problem with smoke doesn't end there.
The CDC explains that smoking before or during pregnancy can affect fertility, health during pregnancy, and the health of both mother and baby. Secondhand smoke is also harmful to babies during pregnancy and after birth, and is linked to risks including sudden infant death syndrome, middle ear disease, lower respiratory illness, and reduced lung function.
