🧾 What isn't in the price of a pack
What isn't included in the price on the pack — the bill that arrives later.
The price of cigarettes is written on the box.
So people think about the cost of smoking in terms of how much a pack costs. How many you buy a day, how much you spend a month. That calculation is easy to follow.
But the price on the box is only part of the cost.
The CDC explains that quitting leads to lower risk of heart disease, stroke and more. In other words, the cost of smoking doesn't end at the moment of purchase. It can show up later as medical bills, poor health, time you can't work, and worry in your family.
The WHO likewise explains that smoking causes major economic damage to households, communities and society as a whole.
