The Future Cigarette was, disappointingly, very much a cigarette.
No need to light it. Just hold the silver stick in your mouth and press the small dot at the tip. No smoke comes out. No smell. And yet, the moment it touched his lips, somewhere in his body said, "ah."
Mr. N tried it on the roof of the office.
The roof had once been the smoking area. Now the ashtrays were gone, and only the round marks left on the floor showed that something had been there. Mr. N stood beside one of those marks and held the Future Cigarette in his mouth.
