↩️ One cigarette in: the difference between people who come back and people who don't
The difference between people who come back and people who don't isn't whether they slipped. It's whether they can still treat themselves as someone who's quitting.
The few minutes after you've smoked one are oddly quiet.
You put it out. The smoke clears. Only the taste stays in your mouth. A moment ago you wanted it desperately, and the instant you finish, something else arrives.
I did it.
Those words are pretty heavy.
More than the tobacco itself, the words you turn on yourself afterward can be what wrecks quitting. I knew I couldn't. My willpower is weak. It's over now. Once you go that far, one cigarette stops ending at one.
If it's over, there's no need to hide anymore.
If it's over, smoking just for today is the same.
