🚪 Losing the smoking area feels a little lonely. That feeling isn't wrong
Missing the smoking area doesn't always mean you need tobacco. Maybe the time and connection you kept there just haven't been moved elsewhere yet.
One of the things people who've quit find hard to admit is, "I kind of miss the smoking area."
It's bad for your health. It leaves a smell. It costs money. You know you're better off not smoking. And yet — there was a kind of time that only happened in the smoking area. A few minutes to gripe about work. A moment where the honest stuff you can't say in the meeting room comes out. A moment where, just by standing next to someone, conversation somehow works.
When you quit tobacco, you end up leaving that place too.
The smoking area held something besides tobacco
The smoking area is bad for your body. That doesn't change. But for the person, it was also a small refuge.
